1) What examples are provided from the two texts of the 'male gaze' (Mulvey)?  One example is how Beyonce is objectified herself on the camera for male gaze. 2) Do texts such as these show there is no longer a need for feminism or are they simply sexism in a different form? Texts such as this suggest that is there no more need to post feminism. 3) Choose three words/phrases from the glossary of the article and write their definitions on your blog. Feminism-  the advocacy of women's rights on the basis of the equality of the  sexes . Post- feminism -  a societal perception that many or all of the goals of feminism have already been achieved. 3rd wave feminism- A movement which encouraged women to be more dominant. This is led by "Gen Z" Now read  The Theory Drop: Gender Performativity   ( MM69 , page 25) and answer the following questions. 1) How does the writer suggest gender performativity is established from a young age?  He suggested that gender has been taught

MIGRAIN: January assessment learner response

  1) Type up your feedback in  full  (you don't need to write the mark and grade if you want to keep this confidential). 29 marks grade B. I had good media knowledge and used many theories in my 20 mark answer. However, I did not develop my points further. 2) Read  the mark scheme for this assessment  carefully. Identify at least  one  potential point that you missed out on for each question in the assessment. Q1- The British flag in the background constructs a meaning of Great Britain, traditional power and the monarchy. Q2- Synergy allows brands to maximise profit from a brand by branching out. Q3- Public service broadcasting maintains quality standards. Q4- Dependency theory. This shows that the media has damaging effects on its viewers and that audience is becoming to attached to the media. 3) On a scale of 1-10 (1 = low, 10 = high), how much revision and preparation did you do for this assessment? You may also want to think here whether you had completed all the original blog

MIGRAIN: Introduction to Representation

  1) Why is representation an important concept in Media Studies? It is a good way to explore questions of social and cultural context. 2) How does the example of Kate Middleton show the way different meanings can be created in the media? A news editor will decide the way the image of Kate Middleton is represented and can alter the actual meaning behind it. 3) Summarise the section 'The how, who and why of media representation' in 50 words. When consuming media products, we should always question why they are being created and also by who they are created by. The audience needs to attempt to understand the reason why this product was made in a particular way and the meaning that is implied   toward  the audience consuming it, 4) How does Stuart Hall's theory of preferred and oppositional readings fit with representation? Hall had argued that audience not to passively accept the stereotypes presented by the media content and draw to their own social and cultural experiences

MIGRAIN: Introduction to feminism

  1) Why did Laura Bates start the Everyday Sexism project? Laura Bates wanted to give women a outlet to speak up. 2) How does the Everyday Sexism project link to the concept of post-feminism? Is feminism still required in western societies? Everyday Sexism empowers women. I think feminism is still partly required in western societies due to a minority of groups like elderly which aren't raised up on those ideologies.  3) Why was new technology essential to the success of the Everyday Sexism project? Technology helped create a website to get their idea across to millions of people around the world. 4) Will there be a point in the future when the Everyday Sexism project is not required? What is  YOUR  view on the future of feminism? Yes because the future generations will be raised through these feminist ideas so they will already know about it. I believe that men and women should have equal rights however I think some feminists take it too far and I do not support that idea. Media
