MIGRAIN: January assessment learner response

 1) Type up your feedback in full (you don't need to write the mark and grade if you want to keep this confidential).

29 marks grade B. I had good media knowledge and used many theories in my 20 mark answer. However, I did not develop my points further.

2) Read the mark scheme for this assessment carefully. Identify at least one potential point that you missed out on for each question in the assessment.
Q1- The British flag in the background constructs a meaning of Great Britain, traditional power and the monarchy.
Q2- Synergy allows brands to maximise profit from a brand by branching out.
Q3- Public service broadcasting maintains quality standards.
Q4- Dependency theory. This shows that the media has damaging effects on its viewers and that audience is becoming to attached to the media.

3) On a scale of 1-10 (1 = low, 10 = high), how much revision and preparation did you do for this assessment? You may also want to think here whether you had completed all the original blog tasks from last term before doing the assessment. I score it a 6 and I did the blog tasks before the test.

4) Look at your answer for Question 2. Did you manage to write about three different strategies and three different benefits? It's vital you read the question and follow it exactly. I managed to list 3 different strategies but however did not get the correct definitions.

5) Look at your answer for Question 3. Did you follow the question guidance and write about both the BBC and commercial broadcasters? What could you have added to this answer to reach a higher mark? I wrote about both BBC and commercial broadcasters. I could have got a higher mark by talking about more advantages of commercial broadcasters.

6) Now look over your mark, teacher comments and the mark scheme for Question 4 - the 20 mark essay question on media effects theory. Write a new paragraph for this question based on the suggested theories/answers in the mark scheme. Make sure it is an extensive, detailed paragraph focused on the question and offering examples from the wider media.

14/20
Media creates moral panic within society which leads to "bad world syndrome". This moral panics may be over exaggerated to a extent and gives long lasting damaging effects to the audience consuming it. With the new digital age technopanics are starting to appear since lots of people have access to the internet they spread like wildfire.
